Damp walls and what they attract
Moisture is what turns a risk into an attack.
In short: Rising damp, window frame moisture and blocked drains noted on a building and pest inspection.
Why moisture matters
Termites need moisture. Damp walls, leaking frames and wet ground beside the house make a property far more attractive to them.
What was recorded
A St Ives building and pest inspection found rising damp at the base of rear walls and moisture damage in a window frame where the ground sat too high.
Drains that hold water
Blocked spoon drains kept water beside the same house, adding to the problem.
Thermal imaging
A thermal camera shows cooler, damper areas behind finished surfaces, which a moisture meter then confirms.
In a new Tallawong home
Watch ground levels, downpipes and garden watering. They decide whether the slab edge stays dry.
