Termite risk for Tallawong homes

Subterranean termites are active across western Sydney and new homes in Tallawong are built with a termite management system, usually collars at every pipe through the slab, an exposed slab edge and a durable notice in the meter box telling you what was installed. The system works only while it stays visible and unbridged. Our Tallawong slab check found penetrations with no collar at all, and at handover we often find cladding already closer to the soil than the 150mm it needs. Both are easy to fix early and expensive to discover late.

New homes must have a termite management system and a durable notice.

Collars seal the pipes through the slab, the most common hidden entry point.

Cladding needs 150mm clear of the soil so the slab edge stays inspectable.

Garden beds and mulch against the wall bridge the barrier.

An annual timber pest inspection is the recommended follow up.

FAQ

Termite risk for Tallawong homes: common questions

What is the durable notice?

A label usually fixed in the meter box recording the termite system installed, its life and its maintenance needs. A missing notice is itself a finding.

Do new homes get termites?

They can. Termites reach a new house through any gap in its protection, and new estates often sit beside cleared bushland and timber debris.

How frequently should a Tallawong home get a pest check?

Every twelve months is the usual recommendation, more often if the house has had activity or adjoins bushland.
